Planning
a tour is a long-term exercise with lead times
of often 12 to 18 months to accommodate time
frames for funding bodies, subscription seasons
and venue availability. Keeping on top of the
ins and outs of all of this can be tough for
a small company or a performer who has never
toured before.
Bear in mind that national
tours (visiting three or more states) are mostly
dependent on funding from
Playing Australia to cover the net touring
costs (freight, travel, accomodation, and living
allowances). Applications close on June 15 (for
tours commencing after January 1), and December
15 (tours after July 1). Once Performing Lines
has decided to organise a tour, it may take
four to eight weeks to secure venues and put
the application together.
Tours within one state may
be funded by the relevent state or territory
agency. Contact the appropriate agency for information
about deadlines, eligibility and criteria.
Performing Lines' extensive
and diverse touring networks keep us up-to-date
and in contact with producers, festivals and
presenters around Australia and internationally.

might get your show on the road, the intricacies
of possible funding avenues and the many tiny
details that will help make a tour a success.
