| In
determining our touring program, Performing
Lines will consider: |
 |
 |
The audience
to which a production may be directed,
both nationally and internationally; |
 |
The geographic areas
it could potentially tour; |
 |
The particular form
of the work and the opportunity to encourage
a wider appreciation of innovative developments;
|
 |
The ways in which
programming can extend the life and recognition
of the work; |
 |
The potential contribution
of the production to the development of
Australian theatre practice; |
 |
| Performing
Lines applies these guidelines to achieving
a strategic distribution of performances,
the development of new or innovative works
and to building new audiences. It will
work within the constraints of its resources
and will provide assistance to companies,
artists, venues and presenters in the
most practical way. Selection of works
is therefore determined by the extent
to which a number of criteria are met: |
 |
The degree
of innovation, how far the production
progresses form, ideas and style; |
 |
The unique or original
qualities of the work - its spirit or
emotional appeal; |
 |
The level of excellence
and professionalism of the production;
|
 |
The ongoing benefit
to the artist, the group or the company
and the extent to which the involvement
by Performing Lines will potentially encourage
continuity or foster greater creativity; |
 |
The direct benefit
to the audiences or the venues through
staging particular forms or styles of
work. |
 |
| All
productions are also subject to financial
criteria, determined firstly by the funds
available to Performing Lines to support
productions. Performing Lines may seek
to maximise the yearly program by sharing
the cost. Additional financial considerations
will include: |
 |
Whether
the touring production can contribute
financially; |
 |
Whether other presenters
or venues are prepared to share in the
financial risk; |
 |
Whether other sources
of funds can be found, such as other public
sector agencies, corporate sponsors or
philanthropic trusts; |
 |
And by relating the
amount, timing or form of support required
by the production to perceived benefit. |
