A road trip into the agoraphobia and desolation of the Australian outback, roadkill is situated within the minds of its three performers. It explores their fears and their twisted perceptions of the landscape and its dangers. Interlaced with these fears are urban myths, backpacker deaths, thirst, love, distrust and the harsh loneliness of the bush. roadkill is an unsettling ride into the world of a couple who break down in the middle of nowhere and find that their greatest danger is not their isolation.
roadkill deals with these psychological states through a vocabulary of intense physicality. There is genuine danger and risk in the work

roadkill's international premiere was in 2007 at the Barbican in London as part of Dance Umbrella. It toured Australia in 2009 and Canada in 2010 and will be part of the Venice Biennale’s dance program in June 2010.
Splintergroup was founded in 2004 and is a flexible and collaborative group. Splintergroup members change from project to project and have included Gavin Webber, Grayson Millwood, Vincent Crowley, Sarah-Jayne Howard, Michelle Ryan, Mark Howett, Iain Grandage, Andrew Ross, Luke Smiles and Zoe Atkinson. All members have equal input into the creative process.
Splintergroup’s first work lawn was developed in collaboration with Sasha Waltz & Guests and premiered at Brisbane’s Powerhouse in 2004. It was subsequently performed at Sophiensaele, Berlin; Dancenorth, Townsville (2005); Sydney Festival; Tanzplattform, Stuttgart; Perth International Arts Festival; Singapore Arts Festival (2006); Radialsystem, Berlin; Heilbronn; Freiburg (2007) Brisbane Powerhouse; Malthouse Theatre, Melbourne (2009) and St. Pölten, Austria (2010).

"HOW many superlatives can you fit into one short review? This extraordinary dance work deserves them for its theatricality, choreography, performing skills and daring, sound, lighting - all combining to make this the best piece of dance as theatre seen in Sydney since Splintergroup was last here with lawn. " Jill Sykes, The Sydney Morning Herald, 2009 |

"Roadkill is all encompassing physical theatre. Every element of the performance has been developed with equal attention paid to its evolution, creating a theatrical experience that is complete physically, aesthetically, visually and aurally. It is exciting and innovative work and sets an admirable benchmark for physical theatre practitioners not only in Australia, but internationally. " Bron Batten, Australian Stage Online, 7/3/09 |

"a tense, almost cinematic piece of dance-theatre, partly thriller, partly a study of the destabilising effects of isolation... the action totally gripping. Its effects were achieved with remarkable economy... they’re terrific movers, speedy, strong and fearless..." Ballet.co.uk, 30 October 2007 |
