Coma Land Wins Best New Work

The winners of the 2017 Performing Arts WA Awards were revealed on Monday night at a ceremony at the State Theatre Centre of Western Australia. The annual event recognises the quality of local works made by WA artists.

We are thrilled that Writer/Director Will O’Mahony took home BEST NEW WORK for Coma Land, a black comedy co-produced by Performing Lines WA and Black Swan State Theatre Company that explores the changing relationship between parent and child, success and failure, mastering and perfection.

Featuring a powerhouse of talented performers and creatives, Coma Land is our second collaboration with Will following our regional tour of Great White in 2015.

“We are so pleased that Will’s writing has been recognised as he has a unique voice and style, and this is what drew us to work with him in the first place” said Fiona de Garis, Performing Lines WA’s Former Senior Producer.

“As independent producers, we couldn’t not have staged this work alone. Partnering with Black Swan State Theatre Company enabled us to bring this work of scale to life and showcase Will not only as writer, but as a director” commented Rachael Whitworth, Performing Lines WA’s Senior Producer.

Congratulations to Will, the cast and the creative team for this heartening award. We would also like to congratulate Coma Land ‘s Composer and Sound Designer Rachael Dease who was awarded BEST MUSIC for Let The Right One In.

Congratulations to all winners.
