Layla Majnun 2019 Storyteller Call Out

Performing Lines WA is casting for its 2019 premiere of Layla Majnun, a Persian tale of undying love brought to the stage by diverse artists from WA and Feraidoon Mojadedi. Directed by James Berlyn, the show is an interdisciplinary one-man performance that integrates traditional Persian storytelling with contemporary visual projections and original music.

We are looking for a local storyteller to take on the role of a second narrator. This is a unique opportunity to learn and share the stage with world-renown US based Farsi scholar and storyteller Feraidoon Mojadedi.

Criteria

  • Male
  • 25-55yrs old
  • From a culturally diverse background
  • Emerging or Established with some experience in performing, storytelling or public speaking
  • Fluent in English with prior knowledge of or willingness to learn Persian
  • Ability to memorize a full script
  • Ability to sing (desirable, but not necessary)

In order to be eligible, you must:

  • Be able to attend the storytelling workshop, March 9th & 10th, 2019
  • Be able to attend the rehearsals and show, from Sept 14th to Oct 6th, 2019

Storytelling Workshop

During the course of the day (March 9th) you will be guided through a series of activities and learn useful skills in storytelling from James Berlyn. Our aim is to create a relaxed environment without the pressure of a cold call audition. As well as being a professional development opportunity for all participants, this workshop will help us identify a performer who will be invited to come back the following day (March 10th) to meet with the rest of the creative team.

Rehearsal and Show

You must also be available full time from September 14th to October 6th 2019. This includes:

  • 3 weeks of rehearsals and shows working 6 days per week.

For this position, we are offering a weekly wage in accordance with the Live Performance Award 2010 rate, including super, work cover and holiday pay.
