Meet the Sunshine Super Girl cast

With the world premiere of Andrea James’ Sunshine Super Girl   in Griffith just around the corner from 7 to 10 October 2020, we are delighted to introduce you to the cast.

Yorta Yorta and Gunaikurnai writer and director Andrea James leads an extraordinary First Nations cast including Katie Beckett as Evonne Goolagong Cawley, with Luke Carroll, Jax Compton, Katina Olsen and Kyle Shilling. A full list of cast and creatives can be found here.

It will be the headline event in the inaugural Yarruwala Wiradjuri! Festival, and held alongside a host of dance, theatre, visual arts and more, showcasing the breadth of contemporary Aboriginal culture in the Riverina.

“It’s such a beautiful story about talent and fate, where all of the stars aligned in Evonne’s childhood at the right time and right place for her to become a world champion,” James said.

“She had the same upbringing as my dad, who lived on a fringe camp outside of town, and to see a young Aboriginal girl from the bush reach the heights of international tennis fame is such an inspiring and hopeful story,”

Executive Producer Marion Potts said that despite the challenges 2020 has presented, we have persevered to bring this extraordinary and important story to the stage. This work has been made possible by so many people – inlcuding Evonne and her husband Roger Cawley, who have been extremely generous with their time and encouragement.

“We feel extremely honoured to be producing this work and premiering it where it all started, on Wiradjuri country. This world premiere will be a significant cultural moment,” said Potts.
