We are delighted to announce the successful applicants for the PERFORMING LINES x APT 2022 program!
The program is for NSW-based playwrights whose work requires bespoke cultural, artistic, formal or methodological development and producing. Two commissions with development support are available for (two) playwrights or playwright collaborations to each develop a new work toward producing and publication consideration.
In 2022 the successful playwrights are Jordan Shea and Nick Atkins.
Jordan Shea is a Filipino-Australian writer and teacher, based on Gadigal Country. A graduate of the VCA (Writing), and Notre Dame (Theatre/Education), his work has been produced and developed by Sydney Theatre Company, Australian Theatre for Young People, Belvoir 25a, Old 505, the Old Fitz, the Hayes Theatre Company, CAAP, the Sydney Fringe Festival and the Joan, Penrith. Jordan was one of the co-recipients of the Philip Parsons Playwrights Fellowships, and is the 2022 Varuna House Fellowship, awarded by Writing NSW.
Nick Atkins is a theatre maker. He is currently the cultural fellow with City of Parramatta and completing a practice-based PhD program with the Creativity and Cognition Studios (UTS). Prior to this he worked as director, new work for Q Theatre, chair of Theatre Network NSW, member of Create NSW’s Artform Advisory Board (Theatre) and as co-artistic director of Crack Theatre Festival (TiNA). For Q Theatre Nick has directed DAISY MOON WAS BORN THIS WAY by Emily Sheehan, AWGIE award winning YELLOW YELLOW SOMETIMES BLUE by Noelle Janaczewska and THE UGLIEST DUCKLING. As a playwright he was awarded ATYP’s Foundation Commission for his play WONDER FLY. Other plays include, A BOY & A BEAN (PACT, Q Theatre), awarded Best Performing Arts event at Mardi Gras and OUT OF THE BARS awarded Gasworks’ Playtime Initiative. He has completed residencies with Urban Theatre Projects, Performance Space, Blacktown Arts Centre, UNSW, Centre D’Art Marnay Sur-Seine (France) and NES Artist Residency (Iceland).

It hosts the world’s largest online showcase and searchable database of the best Australian playwriting. APT seeks new voices for new times, develops plays that change the national story, links them to production, publishes them and promotes them here and around the world.
