EOI now open for PLWA 2021 CaLD Artist Lab

Performing Lines WA is taking Expression of Interests from Culturally Diverse and First Nations Emerging and Mid-career artists from all artforms to be part of its annual paid CaLD Artist Lab taking place at Fremantle Arts Centre, May 6-10 2021.

Now, in its second year, the PLWA CaLD Artist Lab is a safe and creative environment for the next generation of culturally diverse artists in WA to explore ideas, build new relationships and unpack performance-making processes.

Over 4 days, 12 creatives will learn from highly skilled artform mentors, and leaders through workshops, one-on-one and group sessions and informal networking opportunities.

Each participant will be paid $1,000 to attend the Lab.

All participants are required to stay in PLWA provided accommodation in Fremantle where dinner will be provided each night.

This initiative by PLWA is funded by the Department of Local Government, Sports and Cultural Industries and supported by Fremantle Arts Centre.

2020 CaLD Artist Lab participants

The CaLD Artist Lab was conceived during the 2020 Lockdown. This residency model took place during the 2020 Creative Hub that brought together artists and arts workers across our sector through creative developments, showings, panel discussions, small group discussions and networking opportunities.

All participants of this year’s CaLD Artist Lab will be invited to participate in the 2021 Creative Hub** which will take place from May 24 – June 11 at Subiaco Arts Centre.

The EOI is a simple questionnaire to enable us to find out about you, your practice and your project idea. The EOI should only take you 15 min if you have decided on your project idea.

A project idea is an idea for a new performance work that you hope to explore, or test over the course of the residency. It can be as basic or complex as you would like.

We are looking for creatives that are interested in pursuing a career in the performing arts and are from a culturally diverse and/or First Nations background.

The best part of the program was the exposure to other participants’ work and finding the inspiration to continue on the journey of making work. It has allowed me to be confident enough to believe that I am an artist and one who can share space with other artists in creative spaces and in the industry.”

Eligibility

Culturally Diverse and First Nations Emerging and Mid–career artists from all artforms including writers, dancers, theatre-makers, designers etc.*
Applicants must be available for the entire duration of the residency from 3pm, Thursday 6th May – 5pm, Monday 10th May 2021.
Applicants must be WA residents.
All participants are required to come into the space with a new project idea that they will unpack over the course of the residency.
Participants must stay in accommodation provided by Performing Lines WA in Fremantle.

*Please note if you are not from a culturally diverse or First Nations background, you will not be considered.
