Antoinette Barbouttis

[Barbouttis’] Håmlet – A New Australian Play is extraordinary, in what it wants to say, and how it wants to say it.

Antoinette Barbouttis is a Sydney-based writer, multi-disciplinary artist and fine artist. Antoinette runs her own theatre company Ban Shakespeare whose works include håmlet – a new australian play, Cool Pool Party, Sydney Theatre Buses (a co-creation with Alex Berlage) and Cool Pool Party 2: Graduation. In 2019, Antoinette was awarded the Philip Parsons Award for her work Cool Pool Party landing her a place in the Belvoir Emerging Writers’ Lab (2020). Antoinette was nominated for a Sydney Theatre Award for her performance in Puntila/Matti (MKA Theatre/KXT) in 2017 and was the winner of the Lester Portraiture Prize in 2018.

Focussing on shifting a contemporary lens onto Sydney theatre, Antoinette looks to her community as fuel for innovation. Antoinette has a background in Fine Arts (BFA National Art School) and Design for Theatre (MFA NIDA). Antoinette is an advisor to Accessible Arts NSW.
