Laura McDonald

Sydney

Laura McDonald (she/her) is a Gadigal based screenwriter and playwright. In 2019, her debut play, ‘Don’t Hate The Player’, which she also directed, was performed at Sydney’s Old Fitz Theatre to sell-out audiences, before traveling to Adelaide Fringe Festival in early 2020. After graduating from NIDA’s MFA in Writing for Performance in 2021, her play ‘How To Converse’ was performed at the 2022 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Outside of the theatre, Laura’s short film work is motivated by a desire to make a difference, with the latest Yújìn telling the story of a climate wasteland in Sydney’s future (premiering 2023). Laura’s debut short film, ‘Reverie’, was released in September 2021 and gained selection for Indie Shorts Fest, Pride Film Festival, and Montreal Independent Film Festival, where it won the Outstanding achievement award.
