Sophie Davis

Sophie Davis (she/her) is a Northern Rivers bred, Gadigal based writer. She graduated from NIDA with an MFA in Writing for Performance in 2021. She was the 2022 recipient of NORPA’s Seed Funding for her play in development ‘To Split an Atom’. In 2021, she was the finalist for the Rebel Wilson and Canberra Youth Theatre commissions for her queer dramedy ‘Strike Out’. Her playwriting credits include ‘Six’ (2020) directed by Leticia Caceres, ‘And a Happy New Year’ (2020) directed by Sophie Benassi, and ‘Beth’ (2022) written for NIDA’s 2022 Festival of Emerging Artists. In 2021 she wrote and directed ‘Silly to Think’ which sold out at the Old 505 theatre. Her master’s thesis ‘Silly to Think and never question the Absurd: integrating the female heroine in Absurdist Playwriting’ is published in Etudes journal for theatre practitioners and emerging scholars. She is currently in development for new Australian queer Netball musical ‘Nails Must Be Kept Short’ alongside co-writer Laura McDonald and composer Harry Collins.
