Karilyn Brown | CEO
Karilyn Brown is Chief Executive Officer of Performing Lines, assuming the position in 2013. From 2009, Karilyn was the General Manager of the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies (IFACCA), the global network of national arts funding agencies (national arts councils and ministries of culture) dedicated to improving best practice in arts and cultural policy development, arts funding, arts advocacy and public access to the arts. Karilyn has worked on strategic planning, stakeholder relationships and business operations, as well as a range of international initiatives and projects.
Karilyn’s career has included 20 years with the Australia Council for the Arts, including as Deputy Director, Visual Arts and Crafts Board (1988-1994) and as Executive Director, Arts Development (2001-2009), responsible for national and international audience and market development, a number of strategies focused on presenting and promoting Australian arts and culture in Europe, the US and Japan, and several major international projects such as Australia’s participation in the Venice Biennale and the Australian Indigenous Art Commission at the Musee du quai Branly in Paris.
Karilyn’s other positions have included Program Manager for the 1997-2000 Olympic Arts Festivals and Paralympic Arts Festival programs with the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games; and Managers, Cultural Policy at the City of Sydney. She has also established and managed artist-run-initiatives and organisations in the area of contemporary arts practice.
Between 2011 and November 2013, Karilyn was Chair of the Australian Performing Arts Touring Alliance (PATA), sector-driven strategy focused on the continued building of strong, sustainable and accountable touring and presenting mechanisms across Australia that support our creative artists and companies and the diversity of their work, and facilitate meaningful engagement with audiences and communities in metropolitan, regional and remote Australia.
