Betty Error Trip

Betty Grumble

Emma Maye Gibson (Betty Grumble) and Cheng Yiping (Betty Apple) will undertake a second stage development of a new project, working title Betty Error Trip, exploring ideas of connection and friendship across digital spaces.

We aim to further the playful dynamic they established between Emma Maye Gibson’s earthy and personal poetry and spoken word practice, and Yiping’s electronic and glitchy sonic worldbuilding.

We will create a series of live and recorded meditative sonic and video offerings that could exist in a club environment in lieu of them not being able to meet and club together.

We will undertake further green screen body and landscape explorations and incorporate those into live video and sound mixing that can be experienced online through a number of platforms. A digital animator will create AR filters to augment this digital performance while we await borders to open and physical connection to be possible.

During this development, we will host one live artist talk and Q&A on zoom to allow audiences a window into their collaborative process and their respective artistic practices.

The ultimate goal is explore a third space that sits between the online and real world environments; the flat screen experience of streamed to-camera conversations and the embodied exchange of energy generally only possible in person.
