Nails Must Be Kept Short

Sophie Davis

A two-act Australian queer netball musical: Nails Must Be Kept Short.

A story that celebrates coming of age, coming out and Netball: the biggest team sport in Australia, played by over 1.2 million people.

Nails Must be Kept Short is a new Australian musical comedy set on Sydney’s wealthy North Shore, exploring belonging, queer relationships, professional women’s sport and class. The Norths, Australia’s most elite netball club and a temple of strict heteronormativity, is just one month from finals. After they lose their star Centre to a ruptured ACL (a fate worse than death) they admit 3 queers from the Inner West to their ranks.

When rising star Bec falls for Crofty, one of the Inner Westies, she has to make some hard decisions – does she hide her feelings to fit in, or proclaim them and risk rejection? With hilariously cruel Head Coach Judith on the lookout for the slightest misstep, and a team of hypercompetitive alphas vying for her spot at Finals, Bec realises she must rely on her team to get through through even the toughest of times. Yeah The Girls!
