Pedalling Back

“I’m going to tell you my story. But one thing I’ve learned from the movies is never let the truth get in the way of a good story”

Jeff Michel

Written and performed by multi-skilled artist Jeff Michel, this captivating semi-autobiographical one-hander takes you on a comic and energetic ride through the pitfalls of his adolescence…without the Hollywood ending.

Jeff is pedalling back, back … back to a time in his boyhood in Shaker Heights, Ohio. For years he has packaged his life up into the idealised world of cinema. His teenage passion for movies has clouded his ability to cope in the real world. The most reliable constant in his life is his friend Elle, who tries to keep him grounded.

A sudden and traumatic event shatters this idyllic youth, and Jeff has to learn how to cope when the film of his life is not the one he wants to see.

Jeff offers an intimate feast of comedy and drama, hope and regret in this beautiful solo show. Incorporating physical comedy, storytelling, puppetry, music and singing, this is a show that delights in the raw possibility of theatre itself.

Pedalling Back is a triumph…”

… Simple yet rich, and with a smorgasbord of musical cinematic stings.”
