The Censor

Have you ever been told you can’t read this or that book? Maybe the adults said it was too scary? Or not a good book for kids?

What if you still really wanted to read it? What would you do?

Welcome to The Censor: a world where you can read everything.

Where you’re in control of what you choose to read.

Where you’re in control of yourselves.

Where you’re in control of… the adults!

In this workshop series you get to choose what gets banned and what gets read. Theatre-makers Vidya Rajan and Cassandra Fumi will guide you through two stages of creative workshops exploring book censorship and what’s on your mind when these big book decisions get made for you. At the final hour of each workshop, we’ll get your parents / adults in to see what they have to say.

You’ll form a dynamic ensemble working towards a sharing of what we have made so far (in June) where you’ll perform for other children and maybe some adults (if they’re lucky).

This project is part of ArtPlay’s New Ideas Lab – a program that develops new creative works for children over three stages with collaboration from artists, children and audiences alike.
