Dip into the darkly-comic dream state that is UNHEIMLICH – a house-cat will be your guide.

UNHEIMLICH, meaning un-homely/uncanny, is a space where the familiar can quickly become strange or frightening.

Join our happy couple on this journey where dreams and memories merge into reality and our shadow selves come out to play. Child-like games take on a deeper significance, jokes are wielded as weapons, and masks slip to reveal things that were intended to remain out of sight.

Conjuring fantastical imagery from the recesses of the human mind, UNHEIMLICH is a thrilling new performance work by director and The Last Great Hunt alum Katt Osborne and multidisciplinary artist Tarryn Gill. Drawing inspiration from her acclaimed Guardians series of soft sculptures, Gill has created life-sized, hand-sewn masks to be animated by an exciting team of Perth’s most-established performing artists.

UNHEIMLICH is an unmissable theatrical collaboration of visual arts, and performance.

I am excited about undertaking this collaboration with director Katt Osborne out of a desire to expand this series of works into a performative realm. It feels like the natural progression in my practice to now take these soft sculptural forms into multi-artform work that includes performative elements.

Discomforting and deeply unsettling, UNHEIMLICH is everything its name promises and shot through with oddball comedy so dark it will make you shiver with delight.”

Seesaw Magazine

A grim intimacy, Unheimlich undulates with alarming familiarity, poignancy and sadness (…) An intense emotional journey”

★★★★ ½ Artshub

The piece is enrapturing but also disturbing and it is certainly bleak (…) [it’s] a joy of image, sound and acting”

In everything we do, we acknowledge that we live on Aboriginal land and constantly learn from the wisdom of First Peoples.

Where we are and the history that precedes us informs how we work and how we move forward.
